Retelling Myths Retrospective
Well, as I mentioned last time, Retelling Myths is over - for this batch, at least.
After 3 years and 33 stories, I felt that it was definitely time to take a break from the (mostly) monthly schedule. Not to mention that, after 3 years, I had already pretty much used up the glut of ideas for this series that I had at the beginning.
That’s not to say that I don’t have more ideas for this series. But, I need more time to work on them, and a monthly schedule was starting to becoming too much.
I had originally started this series with the idea that they’d be flash fiction that I’d post on Twitter.
But, as the months went by, the stories got longer and more elaborate - probably because after I had used up my original ideas, I started doing research; and my research led me to a glut of information that I wanted to use for the stories.
Hence, why keeping a monthly schedule became harder and harder.
Though, 33 stories in 3 years isn’t too bad, I’d say!
Looking back at my work, I feel pretty proud of all the stories that I’ve written over these past 3 years.
Here are some of my favourites from the series:
The Red Riding Hood Saga
Overall, I’m quite happy with how the series turned out! 😄
Next Steps
As for this Substack, I still have plans for it!
First, there are six Retelling Myths that I haven’t posted on this Substack yet, since this Substack started after Retelling Myths began.
So, over the next two and a half months, I’ll be releasing them here on a biweekly schedule (that’s every two weeks, and not twice a week; thanks, English 😅).
As for Retelling Myths itself, I would like to self-publish a collection of all the stories so far, in both digital and print forms.
To do that, here are some of the steps that are ahead of me:
Finish the introduction and any other words that I’d like to add
Find an editor to do an edit of the book with
Find a book cover designer
Find a marketer
Put it all together
And that’s just what I can currently see…
I’m pretty sure that I’m missing some steps… 😅
So, hopefully, after the six stories are reprinted on this Substack, I’ll have some updates on how the collection is going!
As for new works of fiction, I do have some ideas on how to expand both the Camelot stories and the Red Riding Hood Saga.
But, I need more time to work on those, so these new stories will most likely not show up until next year.
Thank you!
And that’s all that I have to say for now!
Thank you to everyone who’s stuck around so far!
